fieldtask_list_members
Read-only- Permission
members:read- REST equivalent
GET /public/v1/members- Safe retries
- Reads only; safe to repeat
fieldtask_list_members lets an AI client list the active members of your organization, page by page. It's how the client turns a person's name, such as "Alex", into the member ID that other tools need: assignees for fieldtask_create_job, and member_id for timesheet totals and timesheet entries.
There's no MCP tool for reading a single member. The REST endpoint GET /public/v1/members/{id} has no MCP equivalent; the client finds people with this list instead.
Same checks and results as REST GET /public/v1/members.
Permissions
| Permission | Dependency in the permission map |
|---|---|
members:read | No dependencies |
The tool appears only where FieldTask has enabled member roster reads.
How the client uses it
FieldTask's tool description tells the client to:
- match people by
display_name, and not ask you to copy IDs; - treat
idas the organization member ID used for job assignment, not a user account ID; - use
page.next_cursorto read the next page.
When a name matches more than one member, a well-behaved client asks you which one you mean. These are instructions to the client, not guarantees, so check the result of anything it does with the ID.
Example prompts
| You ask | What the client typically does |
|---|---|
| "Who's on the team?" | Calls the tool and follows the pages, then lists the members' names and job titles. |
| "Assign Alex to the rooftop inspection." | Calls this tool to find Alex's member ID before creating the job. |
| "How many hours did Alex work last week?" | Calls this tool for Alex's member ID, then fieldtask_get_timesheet_range. |
Arguments
All arguments are optional.
Arguments for fieldtask_list_members. Descriptions are the text your AI client receives.
cursorstringoptional1–4096 charactersordering"created_at" | "-created_at"optionaldefault "created_at"Oldest first (created_at) or newest first (-created_at). Keep unchanged when following a cursor.
page_sizeintegeroptionaldefault 25
Additional properties are rejected.
To read the next page, the client passes page.next_cursor back as cursor, keeping page_size and ordering unchanged. To keep results within MCP's size limit, a page can hold fewer members than page_size while page.has_more is still true.
Result
The result has data, a list of members, and page. Each member has id, display_name, designation (job title, or null), status and, where FieldTask has enabled change tracking for members, revision. Only active members are listed, so status is always active. Members don't include email addresses, roles or user account IDs. See List members (REST).
