fieldtask_get_timesheet_range
Read-only- Permissions
members:read,timesheets:read- REST equivalent
GET /public/v1/timesheets/range- Safe retries
- Reads only; safe to repeat
fieldtask_get_timesheet_range lets an AI client answer questions such as "how many hours did Alex work last week?". It returns one member's worked time for each day of a range of 1–31 days, and the total, in seconds.
It covers one member per call and has no approval status, pay rates or pay amounts.
Same checks and results as REST GET /public/v1/timesheets/range.
Permissions
| Permission | Dependency in the permission map |
|---|---|
members:read | No dependencies |
timesheets:read | Depends on members:read |
The tool appears only where FieldTask has enabled timesheet reads. To resolve a name into a member ID, the client also uses fieldtask_list_members, which needs the same members:read.
How the client uses it
FieldTask's tool description tells the client to:
- resolve the person by name with
fieldtask_list_membersfirst, use their member ID rather than a user account ID, and ask you when a name is ambiguous; - for relative periods such as "last week", use the organization's own first day of the week, not an assumed Sunday;
- ask you for explicit dates when it can't tell which dates you mean.
The result states the time zone and first day of the week it used, so you can check the period.
Example prompts
| You ask | What the client typically does | What you can verify |
|---|---|---|
| "How many hours did Alex work from 2 to 8 November?" | Calls fieldtask_list_members, then this tool with start_date: "2026-11-02" and end_date: "2026-11-08". | data.start_date, data.end_date and data.total_duration in the result. 140,400 seconds is 39 hours. |
| "Show Alex's hours per day this month." | Works out the month's dates and calls the tool once. | One entry in data.days for every day of the month, including days with 0. |
| "Hours for the whole team last week." | Calls the tool once per member. | There's no organization-wide total; each call reports one member. |
| "Alex's hours for the last quarter." | Splits the period into ranges of up to 31 days. | Each call's range is 31 days or fewer. |
Arguments
{
"member_id": "33333333-3333-4333-8333-333333333333",
"start_date": "2026-11-02",
"end_date": "2026-11-08"
}
start_dateandend_dateare both included and are calendar days in your organization's time zone, formattedYYYY-MM-DD.- The range must be 1–31 days, and
end_datecan't be beforestart_date. Otherwise the call fails withinvalid_query. An argument in the wrong format fails withvalidation_failed. member_idmust be an active member. Otherwise the call fails withresource_not_found.

days has one entry for every date in the range, and total_duration is their sum. A 0 means no recorded time that day. If FieldTask can't compute the report, the call fails with temporarily_unavailable; it never reports zero hours in place of an error. See Reading the result.
